01
Define the part and drawing revision
Identify whether the enquiry is for a bolt, screw, nut, washer, stud, threaded rod or a drawing-based component. Attach or reference the current, controlled drawing and state its revision. Include the dimensions that define fit and function: diameter, length, thread form and pitch, head or drive style, engagement, tolerances, surface condition and any marking or packaging requirement.
If a customer drawing or bill of materials controls the part, say so. Do not combine dimensions from an old drawing, a catalogue image and an email note without identifying which source governs.
02
State the grade and applicable product standard
Write the required titanium grade exactly as it appears in the project specification, including the material/product-form standard or condition where specified. If the grade is not known, say that it is not yet confirmed and provide the approved drawing, specification or bill-of-material reference. Material suitability remains a decision for the responsible engineering authority.
Fastener standards can differ by item type and dimensional system. For example, the RFQ may cite a governing bolt/stud or nut standard. State the full designation and revision required by the buyer and ask for applicability to be confirmed before quotation; a familiar standard number alone does not define every acceptance requirement.
MetalPartSource currently prioritizes Grade 2 fastener sourcing for seawater equipment. This is a commercial focus, not a default material-selection rule. Grade 5 or another grade must follow the approved specification and a confirmed supply route.
03
Set the commercial quantity and delivery context
Give the number of pieces for the current lot, and note whether samples, repeat orders or an estimated annual demand are also under review. Include the required-on-site date or target delivery window, destination country and delivery point, plus any packing, marking or export-document requirements already specified.
Separate confirmed requirements from preferences. If the date is flexible or the quantity is provisional, label it that way so the quotation can state its assumptions clearly.
04
Describe the real service and assembly
For seawater, desalination, chemical, marine or other industrial duty, include the relevant media and operating context that the project team is permitted to share. Where defined, note temperature, pressure or load conditions, exposure cycle, mating materials, installation method and maintenance constraints. These details help the supplier identify questions that should be referred to engineering.
Do not ask a supplier to infer corrosion or joint suitability from an application label alone. A part used in “seawater service” can still have project-specific limits, interfaces and acceptance requirements.
05
Agree the quality and release file
List the exact documents and inspections required by the purchase specification: for example, material test documentation, heat or lot traceability, dimensional inspection records, tests, marking, witness points or third-party inspection. If the project calls for MTC / EN 10204 3.1, state that explicitly and confirm that it is applicable to the ordered material and agreed supply route.
MetalPartSource coordinates supplier qualification and quality evidence against the agreed scope; each certificate, inspection, traceability link and supplier credential must be confirmed for the specific order before commitment.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I request a quote if I do not know the titanium grade?
Yes. Share the controlled drawing, governing specification, part reference and service context you have. The responsible engineering team must confirm material suitability; the supplier should not select a grade by guesswork.
What if I do not have a drawing?
A recognized standard, bill-of-material reference or clearly dimensioned part description may support an initial review. Critical dimensions, tolerances and acceptance criteria must be confirmed before a firm quotation or order.
Which inspection and material documents should I request?
List the exact certificate, traceability, dimensional report, testing and third-party inspection requirements in the RFQ. Availability and scope must be confirmed for the selected supply route and order.
Standards references
Use the controlled purchase specification as the governing document. ASTM maintains current fastener-standard listings, including nonferrous fastener and nut standards; confirm edition, dimensional system, grade and applicability with the project authority before ordering.
